We know that there are many single moms and widows in our community. Our program to help single moms and widows with transportation issues is much smaller than the actual need in our community. To prevent outspending our resources, we try and focus our efforts to try to identify and help those who most need this type of assistance.
Prior to the event each year, we reach out to our non-profit partners and ask them to refer three or four of their clients most in need of our assistance. Housing Catalyst is one of those partners.
After the event, we received this message from them:
“I just wanted to share that I spoke to one of our clients yesterday and we talked a lot about the car show. She had nothing but positive things to say about the experience-she is so grateful to have new tires and says the car is running better than it ever has. She said all of the vendors she has worked with have been kind and compassionate and that you have also been very responsive and easy to work with. She feels a great sense of relief in knowing her vehicle is much safer to drive and she feels more optimistic about finding employment since she now feels she has reliable transportation-a huge win! On top of all that, she said the car show itself was really fun and the giftbag she received with some goodies like a free coffee have been a great treat!
It’s been very difficult for us to find resources in the community that can help our residents with their transportation needs and I am so grateful that this program has worked out so well for one of ours! Thank you for all you do and we look forward to connecting again next year.”
